Llandaff Cathedral Playathon

24 hours of continuous music, 15 organists, one professional choir and a lot of stamina will be required over the course of this unique event. The organists of Llandaff Cathedral will be joined by organists from around Cardiff for this marathon of music. Pop in during the day, or embrace the full experience by ‘glamping’ in the nave during our after-hours lock-in.

 

17:30 – The playathon begins with evensong, where the organ accompanies the Llandaff Cathedral Choir

18:00 Assistant Director of Music Aaron Shilson kicks off the first recital hour with Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in d minor

19:00 Director of Music, Stephen Moore brings delights from the French romantic period

20:00 David Butler | All Saints Rhiwbina

21:00 Stephen Power | Brecon Cathedral

22:00 – 7:00 Bring your sleeping bag and experience the magic of the Cathedral at night. Tuck yourself in with a hot drink and let the organists lull you to sleep.

09:00 Two of Llandaff Cathedral School’s young organists delight us with half an hour of exciting music.

09:30 For two hours anyone can pay to have a slot on the magnificent Nicholson’s Organ

13:00 Andrew Caskie | Managing Director Nicholson & co. Organ builders

14:00 – 15:30 Join in with the music making with our afternoon of beer and hymns – visit our bar and raise your voice in song! Support us by nominating your favourite hymn to be performed.

15:30 Jeffrey Howard | Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral

16:30 Grand finale…..Our playathon ends with a concert dedicated to celebrating the organ.
