The Coconut Tree Brings a Slice of Sri Lankan Vesak Celebrations to You

4 May @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The Coconut Tree, the authentic family-run Sri Lankan restaurant group, is proud to announce its special Vesak celebration offer on Thursday, 4th May 2023. Vesak, the festival of light, is a vibrant and colourful celebration that is observed in Sri Lanka, and as part of the festival, Dansal or alms stalls traditionally share food with the communities.

The Coconut Tree understands that not everyone can travel to Sri Lanka to celebrate Vesak, and thus, is bringing a part of the celebrations to its customers across its nine UK sites. The restaurant is offering its customers an opportunity to eat for free*, and experience a traditional Sri Lankan Vesak Dansal Plate (VG and GF) from 12 pm to 3.30 pm. There is no need to book in advance, as the restaurant will be taking walk-ins only on the day until 5 pm when regular booking recommences. The offer is open to all, so customers are encouraged to bring their friends and family along to celebrate this special occasion.

The Vesak Dansal Plate will feature a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dishes, including Brinjal Moju, Coconut Sambol, Parippu (Dhal), Amba Maluwa, Sri-Tato, and Yellow Rice with Raisins. These dishes are prepared with authentic Sri Lankan spices and ingredients and are slow cooked to perfection.

The restaurant’s standard menu will also be available on the day, but it will not be included in the ‘eat for free offer.’ Customers can choose to order from the regular menu and enjoy their favourite Sri Lankan dishes, along with the traditional Vesak Dansal Plate.

“We are excited to celebrate Vesak with our customers and bring a slice of Sri Lankan culture to the UK,” said Rashintha Rodrigo, co-founder of The Coconut Tree. “It is traditional for Dansal, roadside stalls, to serve food free of charge during the Vesak Festival. We are delighted to share this tradition with our customers. We look forward to seeing everyone on the day and celebrating this special occasion together.”

The Coconut Tree is known for its authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service. The restaurant group has nine locations across the UK, including Bristol, Cardiff, Oxford, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Reading, Bath and Cheltenham.
