Every Cardiff and Vale GP Practice now Offering COVID-19 Vaccine

GP practices throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to priority groups in the community. All 60 practices across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board area are inviting residents aged 80 and over to receive the vaccination at the local practice, with those over 75 due to also be invited shortly. The practices are playing an important role in contributing to the Health Board’s Mass Vaccination Programme, with the aim to keep the population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan safe. Cardiff’s Lakeside Wing accepts its first patient

The Lakeside Wing, based on the grounds of the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site, accepted its first patient as of 27 December 2020. The patient was transferred across from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s main Hospital site to the Lakeside Wing to start their rehabilitation as they enter the recovery stage of their treatment. To date, 56 patients are currently being cared for at the new surge facility, undergoing essential rehabilitation after a period of acute illness, which may not necessarily be Covid-19. Health Board urges people to consider alternatives to A&E if possible

New figures show that emergency departments within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board remain under huge pressure.  Katja Empson, a consultant at the Emergency Unit and one of the leads for CAV 24/7, reiterates the ‘Help Us, Help You’ message this New Year, by reminding people to call the new CAV 24/7 number ahead of visiting the emergency unit. 150,000 miles of patient travel prevented by video consultations

More than 150,000 miles of travel to hospital has been avoided in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan following the introduction of video consultations. The number of journeys to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board hospitals has decreased considerably since the introduction of the NHS Wales Video Consultation service in April. The popular service enables patients to attend their hospital appointment via video from the comfort of their own home or without having to leave work.
