New Mass Vaccination Centre to open at former Toys R Us store

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will be opening a fourth Mass Vaccination Centre as part of its Mass Vaccination programme to protect its adult population from Covid 19 as quickly as possible. The Health Board is working in partnership with Cardiff Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council to increase capacity for vaccinations and the new Bayside MVC will enable additional capacity of up to 2,500 vaccines per day, which will be dependent on vaccine supply. Children’s mental health project to be trialled in Welsh schools

A pioneering project to support the mental health of children and young people, who may have suffered adverse childhood experiences, is being piloted in Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan. The Resilience Project is an 18-month initiative that is being rolled out in primary and secondary schools led by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, in partnership with Mental Health Foundation, as part of the Welsh Government’s A Healthier Wales vision for a seamless health and social care sector. UHW Lakeside Wing officially handed over to health board

Construction on the Lakeside Wing, which is based on the grounds of the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site, has finished with the building officially handed over to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CAVUHB). As of Monday 8 February, building work on the new surge facility has been completed, just 20 weeks after construction first started. This means that the ownership of the modular build has been given to the Health Board from the primary contactors, Darwin Group Ltd. Promise for blood cancer patients with trials set to open in Cardiff

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is preparing to implement a new clinical trial that will grant blood cancer patients access to a promising, active lower intensity treatment option. The VICTOR clinical trial, which is funded by Cancer Research UK, and led by Dr Richard Dillon from Guy’s Hospital, London, will examine the efficacy of venetoclax-based treatment in treating certain groups of older patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Care homes across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan reaches vaccination milestone

Every resident and staff member in care homes across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Just 23 days after Cardiff and Vale University Health Board started their vaccination programme for care homes, a total of 3,485 employees and 1,609 residents received their first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. Every Cardiff and Vale GP Practice now Offering COVID-19 Vaccine

GP practices throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to priority groups in the community. All 60 practices across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board area are inviting residents aged 80 and over to receive the vaccination at the local practice, with those over 75 due to also be invited shortly. Cardiff’s Lakeside Wing accepts its first patient

The Lakeside Wing, based on the grounds of the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site, accepted its first patient as of 27 December 2020. The patient was transferred across from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s main Hospital site to the Lakeside Wing to start their rehabilitation as they enter the recovery stage of their treatment. To date, 56 patients are currently being cared for at the new surge facility, undergoing essential rehabilitation after a period of acute illness, which may not necessarily be Covid-19. 150,000 miles of patient travel prevented by video consultations

More than 150,000 miles of travel to hospital has been avoided in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan following the introduction of video consultations. The number of journeys to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board hospitals has decreased considerably since the introduction of the NHS Wales Video Consultation service in April. The popular service enables patients to attend their hospital appointment via video from the comfort of their own home or without having to leave work.
