Cardiff charity encourages supporters to ‘Donate a Day’ of nursing

Welsh charity City Hospice has relaunched an innovative fundraising campaign to support the day-to-day work of their 14 Clinical Nurse Specialists. Originally introduced in 2019, the ‘Donate a Day’ campaign is inspired by a greater need for palliative care in the community. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in an even higher number of patients and their families requiring the charity’s support, with nursing staff continuing to provide vital care on the frontline. Cardiff Dogs Home receives £10,000 donation boost

Sam Warburton, Welsh rugby legend and Cardiff Dogs Home/The Rescue Hotel Ambassador, has received his biggest single donation yet for the refurbishment of the kennels which looks after up to 1000 stray dogs from Cardiff every year. Animal Friends Pet Insurance has given £10,000 to the Cardiff Dogs Home so that the cramped 44 steel kennels that have drainage issues can be vastly improved. Sam has set his sights on raising £500,000 to improve the layout, construction and size of the kennels to provide higher welfare standards for the dogs. Nursery children raise £635 in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore

Staff and children from Enfys Hapus Nursery in Cardiff did 100 steps in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore and raised £635 for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity. The nursery, based in Canton, wanted to do something to honour the inspirational Captain but also wanted to support a charity close to their hearts. Initially, they set their fundraising target as £50 but ended up raising £635. The children, aged between 1 and 7, enjoyed going out in all weathers to do their steps, alongside nursery puppy Rosie. Cardiff cancer survivor steps up to charity challenge

A CARDIFF mum who discovered she had breast cancer following a routine mammogram appointment is supporting Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraising campaign, Walk All Over Cancer. Lucia Pavia Mardon was 53 when she attended her third annual breast cancer screening test at Breast Test Wales in Cardiff. She didn’t think there would be a problem as she regularly checked her breasts and couldn’t feel a lump. But after attending the appointment, she received a letter inviting her for further tests. Cardiff man getting marathon ready in weeks for children’s hospice

A Cardiff man is getting marathon fit in just six weeks to raise money for a children’s hospice which supported his friends after their baby daughter died. Phill Wilkinson, 32, was challenged by a group of friends to run the 26.2 miles on February 28, despite having never run a marathon, or even a half marathon before. Cardiff woman plans to walk for 24 hours for charity

A Cardiff woman is taking on a 24-hour walking challenge to help raise funds for her friend’s seven-year-old son. Nia Thomson, 38, a production manager with the National Theatre Wales met Kasia Thompson, 38, at Freshers Week at the University of Aberystwyth in 2001 when they both joined the karate club. Kasia’s son Leon, 7, from Codsall, West Midlands, lives with cerebral palsy, global development delay and sensory processing issues as well as being non-verbal.
