Cardiff reveals ambitious plan for city housing and communities

An ambitious strategy, outlining Cardiff Council’s plans to continue addressing housing need in the city,  to upgrade existing homes and regenerate communities, maintain momentum in tackling homelessness and support tenants and residents impacted by the pandemic, will be considered by Cabinet next week. Cat rescued from three-storey Cardiff building

RSPCA Cymru and the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service have teamed up to come to the aid of a cat stuck on the roof of a three-story building in the Adamsdown area of Cardiff. Inspector Gemma Black from the animal welfare charity enlisted the support of firefighters after the cat – known as Meuzza – was spotted atop the towering building on Cecil Street in the Welsh capital. Taxi firm extends free rides to the elderly and vulnerable

Dragon Taxis, South Wales’ largest taxi and private hire vehicle operator, has extended its offer of free rides to help roll out the COVID-19 vaccine to elderly and vulnerable patients until February 14. GP practices across South Wales are taking their first steps in the process to tackle the pandemic by vaccinating the elderly and vulnerable in the local community. Dragon Taxis are working with participating GP practices in Bridgend, Cardiff, Newport and Torfaen to offer rides only to those eligible persons who have been invited to make a vaccination appointment, if they have no other means of transport. Sam Warburton is on a mission to raise £500,000 for Cardiff Dogs Home

Welsh Rugby legend Sam Warburton has had many titles in his career – a Grand Slam, the Six Nations, youngest ever World Cup captain – and now he’s retired, Cardiff Dogs Home Ambassador. Extra 400 tonnes of green recycling bags on Cardiff streets

Cardiff residents are complaining of a build up of recycling bags on city streets as rubbish fails to be collected since Christmas. Every year there is inevitably an increase in recycling bags following the Christmas and New Year period as people unwrap gifts. However, this year in particular, there is an estimated 400 tonnes of additional recycling waste that has to be collected by refuse collectors. The additional waste is being blamed on more people shopping online. Cardiff company spreads Christmas cheer, donating gifts to children and young people

Christmas cheer is spreading through NSPCC Cymru in Cardiff, thanks to a donation of gifts from a local company for the children and young people the charity supports.
