Cardiff reveals ambitious plan for city housing and communities

An ambitious strategy, outlining Cardiff Council’s plans to continue addressing housing need in the city,  to upgrade existing homes and regenerate communities, maintain momentum in tackling homelessness and support tenants and residents impacted by the pandemic, will be considered by Cabinet next week. New Cardiff retail and residential development receives funding

A mixed use development coming to Cardiff has received financial backing from Principality Commercial. Developed by property company Portabella, Laundry Quarter, a former laundry mill site will bring 34 houses and apartments to the Pontcanna area. Nine retail spaces are also being developed, to provide opportunities for independent businesses to trade. Principality has provided £7m in funding for the first phase of the development, comprising of 13 houses and apartments. House construction begins on site of former Cardiff school

Work on a housing development of the future, to build more than 200 low carbon homes for Cardiff, has begun. Cardiff Council and its partners, Wates Residential, have started construction on the largestdevelopment in the Cardiff Living scheme, that will deliver 214 new properties on the former site of Eastern high school off Newport Road. Cardiff property market well positioned to emerge from Covid pandemic

The annual Cardiff Report from global property consultancy Knight Frank shows that, even though the city’s property market was badly hit by the pandemic in 2020, Cardiff still achieved noticeable successes, and is anticipated to bounce back well next year when the recovery phase of the pandemic begins. Next phase of affordable homes complete at The Mill

Work is complete on the second phase of affordable homes at the £100m Ely Mill development, including three zero carbon homes. Funded by Principality Commercial, the lending arm of Wales’ largest building society, and developed by Tirion Homes, the 78 properties have all been let by Cadwyn Housing Association. Within the portfolio of 78 homes are three carbon zero properties, which incorporate systems that can adapt heating and power supplies to the owner’s requirements, helping to save energy.
